Corby

This summer no beach or relaxing….Carpintero Naval Patrick Klee has a new project: A total refit of the Corby 26, named “Samurai”. Samurai is famous of winning many regattas all around the world but was left in the harbour of Denia without any good maintenance because the owner has health problems and could not take care of it any more.

The owner built the boat with the architect of Corby himself. He would love to sail once more on the Samurai…..We could not refuse his wish. We bought the boat and are now working on it to make his wish come true. Ones more we will sail out and challenge a regatta with the Samurai and Gerard Fitzpatrick!

Some detailed information about the Samurai: The Yacht Samurai is 7.9 meters. No. Irl 2026 47/7. Model Corby 26. weight 2 tons. Built in Dublin 2000 by Gerard Fitzpatrick with the designer and architect John Corby Cowes i.o.w. Samurai has an engine. Yanmar 10HP no. 0113.

June 2016: Status quo of the Samurai?

  • Engine turns but doesn’t start, probable the valves are not closing.
  • Engine supports are rotten.
  • Looks like all the riggings needs to be replaced.
  • Around the mast we need to do wood replacements and in the cockpit as well.
  • The floor of the cockpit is very instable
  • 2 places on the hull need fibreglass work
  • Cockpit is full of black mold
  • Inside the cockpit the banks need to be replaced

July 2016: Work done!?

  • Cockpit has been cleaned no mold anymore
  • Cockpit has been sanded
  • We took all the (most Harkan) hardware off the boat to clean, repair and oil it.
  • We’ve cleaned the gill of the boat totally
  • Orderded new Harkan maintenance material, orderded Epifanes, Orderded Bostik and FEQ Teak, waiting for delivery!

August/September 2016: What more to do?

  • Repair the engine and make new engine supports
  • Replace riggings when the mast will be down
  • Wood replacement where necessary on the boat
  • Replace the cockpit floor
  • Fixe two places on the hull with fibreglass and paint the hull
  • Refit interior
  • New teak deck
  • New small windows for light in the cockpit

The end of October 2016: With the wind still warm here in Spain we hope to let the Samurai back in to the waters of Spain and go for a first adventure!

For now….we stop informing. Work to be done! Loads and loads of work!

Un Saludo,

Patrick y Brenda
